Overview

The amount of sensitive medically relevant data recorded both in healthcare and by smart devices is growing rapidly.

The Central Challenge

"How can patient anonymity be preserved?"

Our Approach

AI and Big Data methods enable efficient processing. We work on individualized precision medicine and long-term observations, without compromising data privacy.

Our Mission

We shape the future of secure data use in medicine.

Goals

AnoMed-Cluster researches new, provably secure and useful anonymization solutions for medical applications and builds a benchmarking platform for the international research community, which enables researchers to upload their anonymization solutions and have them tested thoroughly.

The platform provides the basis for the evaluation of various anonymization metrics. This provides interfaces for medical researchers and companies to enter gold standards, define metrics, and store data securely. A series of medical application scenarios is being created in which stakeholders with medical data and the latest results of anonymization research, both protective mechanisms and attacks, can interact.

Impulses for medicine and the economy

Innovation & Growth

The cluster ensures that the potential for innovation and new treatment methods, which are made possible by reliable anonymization techniques, are brought into medicine and the medical technology industry, thereby promoting health and economic growth in Germany and the EEA.

Practical relevance through science communication

Technology Transfer

We accelerate technology transfer through concrete attacks on medical challenges and a comprehensive science communication campaign. In this way, we make the dangers tangible for companies, medical professionals, and citizens and clarify that modern anonymization methods effectively protect against these dangers.

An important building block for accelerating technology transfer, strengthening user awareness, and evaluating new anonymization terms is the continuous search for vulnerabilities. This includes the development of deanonymization attacks. Within the framework of the AnoMed cluster, we develop exactly such attacks.

INTERDISCIPLINARY EXPERTISE

Research, Medicine and Law united

In addition to building an infrastructure, AnoMed focuses on developing novel anonymization methods for the developed competition tasks with a group of experts from IT security, medicine, AI research, and industry.

To understand the legal relevance of the submitted and self-developed solutions, AnoMed additionally investigates legal issues directly. This includes the analysis and interpretation of GDPR provisions on identifiability, anonymity, and pseudonymity.
