Goals

The AnoMed Research Center researches new, provably secure methods for the privacy-preserving use of medical data and builds a benchmarking platform for the international research community, enabling researchers to upload and thoroughly evaluate their solutions.

The platform provides the basis for evaluating various privacy metrics. It offers interfaces for medical researchers and companies to enter gold standards, define metrics, and store data securely. A series of medical application scenarios is being created in which stakeholders can interact with medical data and the latest results from privacy research.

The Research Center ensures that the potential for innovation and new treatment methods, made possible by privacy-preserving data use, are brought into medicine and the medical technology industry, thereby promoting health and economic growth in Germany and the EEA.

Practical relevance through science communication

Technology Transfer

We accelerate technology transfer through concrete attacks on medical challenges and a comprehensive science communication campaign. In doing so, we make the risks of medical data use tangible for companies, medical professionals, and citizens, and demonstrate how modern privacy-preserving methods effectively address these risks.

An important building block for accelerating technology transfer and strengthening user awareness is the continuous search for weaknesses in existing privacy protection methods. Within the AnoMed Research Center, we develop exactly such attacks.

Research, Medicine and Law united

In addition to building an infrastructure, AnoMed focuses on developing novel methods for privacy-preserving data use in medical applications — together with experts from IT security, medicine, AI research, and industry.

To understand the legal relevance of the developed solutions, AnoMed additionally investigates legal questions surrounding privacy-compliant data use. This includes the analysis and interpretation of GDPR provisions on identifiability, anonymity, and pseudonymity.
